Step 5: Healthy lifestyle and diet

Why? Research shows that an unhealthy lifestyle, including poor diet, high stress levels, and lack of sleep, can exacerbate dandruff. A diet low in essential nutrients, like zinc, B vitamins, and healthy fats, weakens the scalp’s defenses, making it more prone to dandruff-causing fungal growth. Additionally, stress increases the production of sebum, contributing to an oily scalp environment that promotes dandruff. Studies also indicate that sleep deprivation can disrupt skin barrier function, further aggravating scalp conditions and leading to increased flaking and irritation.
